In this class, our Surrealists created sculptural Illumination Lamps using heavyweight black paper, acrylic paint sticks, tissue paper, wire, and a battery-operated tea light. After viewing the artwork of Paul Klee entitled, The Black Prince, artists recreated some of the whimsical patterns he used and employed scratching techniques to create texture. Tissue paper was applied over openings cut into the black paper with scissors. What a beautiful effect the tealight had when lit inside the lamp, issuing forth the same glowing quality of the prince’s eyes in Klee’s work. Well done. artists!
