Yes! We may offer a home-based art experience with a casual next-door-neighbor kind of feel, but rest assured, we are a fully insured, licensed, and legal business recognized by the state of California. If you’d like more information on our structure or have other business-related questions, please feel free to contact us.
Explore & Grow
When we sit down to plan a lesson at Dancing Crayons Workshop, we have three goals in mind: encouraging the development of authentic ideas, building artistic skills, and developing an awareness of how art exists in the world. Every lesson we teach provides students with a chance to do all three.
Through a combination of open-ended and structured activities, your child will make artwork that is filled with personal meaning and reflects their growing skills and confidence. There is no right or wrong in our studio. “Mistakes” or failures, as Henry Ford put it, are simply an opportunity to begin again, this time, more intelligently.
While experimenting, students will learn the fundamentals of artistic practice such as revision, critique, and persistence, and discuss the work of contemporary and historical artists. We’ll use all kinds of media including paints, pencils, collage, printmaking, sculpture, and clay, as well as digital tools, to name a few. At the younger level, story-telling and book reading will also be incorporated to keep young minds engaged. Older students will be encouraged to create a portfolio of their work, and more advanced materials will be introduced such as oil paints, charcoal, and carving tools. All students will have the opportunity to exhibit their work at our quarterly art show.
We want your child to not only make art that’s fun, but to build skills they can carry with them.
We want students to feel safe and welcome so they have the confidence to play and make “mistakes”
Welcome to the studio!
Our bright, open, and cheerful art space is designed for kids of all ages to make purposeful messes, explore materials, and express their artistic vision through the use of 2D and 3D materials. With supplies placed in visible locations at kid-friendly heights, we encourage self-directed decision making and offer the instructional support necessary to see ideas through to completion. Easels are available for up to six students at a time, and both our tables and easels adjust to meet the size requirements of individual students.
